Wild weather in north-east New South Wales has led to a surge of calls for assistance, with the State Emergency Service (SES) receiving over 600 calls since Friday.
In the past 24 hours alone, they responded to more than 270 requests for help. As of today, the heavy rain is expected to ease to patchier showers, although flood impacts remain significant.
In Lismore, SES volunteers conducted door-to-door checks, advising residents to prepare for potential evacuations.
Emergency rescues were necessary, with two adults and a baby saved from rising floodwaters in Cougal, and another rescue took place in Uki when a vehicle became stranded on a causeway.
Additionally, two individuals were rescued after driving into floodwaters late Saturday and early Sunday.
Approximately 4,300 energy customers experienced power outages, with many still affected.
Fortunately, easing conditions are anticipated, which should assist workers in restoring power to the area. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and heed safety warnings as the situation continues to develop.
