1. The State Flag Is Designed By A Teen

Students throughout the territory were given the responsibility to submit their ideas for Alaska’s flag. It was a 13-year-old boy, named Benny Benson whose design of the Big Dipper and the North Star was chosen. The interesting part is, that it has still been kept after Alaska became the state.

2. Home to Largest Forests

A couple of the largest forests are located in Alaska itself. The first one is the Tongass which is in the southeast covering an area of 16.8 million acres. While the other one is Chugach in the south-central. It is 4.8 million acres.

3. Population and Gender Ratio

Little did you know, Alaska has more men when compared to women. To be more precise, for every 100 women, there are 107 men. However, the women living in Alaska are quite active when it comes to work and does lag behind.

Talking about its population, Alaska is considered the 48th most populous state in the world with 710000 people in number.

4. Official Sport

You must have heard about dog mushing. More specifically, it’s the method of pulling a sled across the snow with a team of one or more dogs. At the same time, the musher stands at the back of the sled. Earlier it was used mostly for transportation purposes. But now, it has changed into a sport, rather a race.

5. Prone to Earthquake and Volcanic Eruption

The state of Alaska is located along the Pacific Ring of Fire. It is very much evident that earthquakes happen regularly here. Three of the ten strongest earthquakes ever recorded have occurred nowhere but in Alaska. About 10% of the world’s volcanos are located in this last frontier.
