Today, we will learn about the Top 5 Highest Mountains in the World. Little did you know, there are a total of 109 snow-capped mountains on Earth. These attract thousands of people, especially those who are advanced in trekking or love exploring new places. Many of you already know about the first two- Mount Everest and Mount K2 respectively. Well, Mount Kanchenjunga is also included in this list. Located in Asia, most of them are in the Himalayan mountain range.

1. Mount Everest
It is the highest mountain in the world, with a height of 29,035 feet above sea level. Mount Everest is often known as ‘Sagarmatha‘ in Nepal. While in Tibet, it is called ‘Chhomolongma‘. Many people aspire to climb Mount Everest. It attracts several climbers, despite having basic claiming skills. For the very first time, it has been summated by Tenzing Norway and Mr Edmond Hillary respectively.

2. Mount K2
Being the second highest mountain in the world, it is 28,251 feet above sea level. Mount K2 is located in the Karakoram range and is called ‘Savage Mountain’. The reason behind such a name is because of the difficulty of ascent. Little did you know that one of every four people who have reached this summit has died because of trying.

3. Mount Kanchenjunga
Known as ‘The Five Treasures of Snows’ with a height of 28,169 feet above sea level, is the world’s third-highest mountain. It comprises five peaks which represent the same number of repositories of God. To be more precise, it includes gold, silver, gems, grains and holy books. The first duo who have climbed up to Mt. Kanchenjunga is Mr Joe Brown and George Band respectively.

4. Mount Lhotse
It is the world’s fourth-highest mountain having a height of 27,940 feet. Mt. Lhotse is connected to Mt. Everest through the South Col. These days, it is becoming more popular because of its tremendous and dramatic steepest south face. However, it is one of the mountains that the climbers have attempted or chose to attempt rarely.

5. Mount Makalu
Last, but not least- The fifth highest mountain in the world is Mt. Makalu having a height of 27,766 feet. It has been climbed for the first time by an American team led by William Siri.
