A model has recently revealed that the Glaciers Are At Risk Of Collapsing Due to Climate Change. With the rise in global temperature, glaciers are melting faster. Scientists are afraid of the fact that if things continue like this, it would collapse within a century and will raise the sea level. Well, that’s not the end. It will eventually inundate the coastal cities too.
A scientist from the University of California, Berkeley has found a model of glacial movement that would help in finding those in the Arctic and Antarctic region which are more likely to fall into the ocean. It has been published in April 2022 in the journal which goes by the name ‘The Cryosphere’. Let’s learn more about it.

Glaciers Are At A Risk Of Collapsing Due to Climate Change: Model Says
As per the observations, it concludes that the thick and fast-moving glaciers will respond fast to basal lubrication rather than the thin ones. Moreover, they are pretty much vulnerable to sudden collapse because of a high rise in temperature. This has been approved and supported by the data from the Greenland Glaciers.
Well, the glaciers do melt as the water is stored on the land. Thus it increases the level of water in the ocean, resulting in the rise of sea level. Even if we reduce the emissions of harmful greenhouse gases which will result in fewer climatic changes, more than one-third of the world’s glaciers will melt by 2100. Little did you know, about 11% of the ice cap in the Siberian Arctic had flowed into the ocean during the period 2013 to 2019. That was quite a gigantic glacier collapse. The speed was maintained for a long time.
The new glacial model is planned to be used on some of the marine-terminating glaciers in Antarctica, as declared by the scientist himself. Things have to be stopped and necessary steps should be taken to conserve our planet earth! Let’s hope for the best!
