1. Tri-State Tornado
This is considered to be the first most destructive tornado that took place on 18 March 1925. It impacted Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Alabama and Kansas. Talking more about it, the Tri-State tornado took away the lives of 695 people and caused severe injuries to 2027 people.
2. Natchez Tornado
The second most destructive one was the Natchez Tornado, which occurred on 7 May 1840. It pathed along the Mississippi River for around 7 miles. Because of this, a total of 317 people died out of which 269 occurred in the river. The death toll is possibly underestimated as the slave deaths were not counted before the Civil War. Not to forget to mention that, 109 people were affected badly and sustained injuries.
3. St. Louis Tornado
Well, this tornado took place on 27 May 1896 and is considered to be highly violent that has been ever recorded. The St. Louis tornado crossed the Mississippi and hit East St. Louis, Illinois. The river was quite busy as numerous people lived on boats on the river. The death toll is estimated to be 255 in number while 1000 people were badly injured.
4. Tupelo Tornado
One of the most violent tornadoes, Tupelo was occurred on 5 April 1936. It caused damage to several residential areas, killing families with no warnings. Elvis Presley and his mother had survived this tornado. The death rate counts to 233 whereas 700 people sustained bad injuries.
5. Gainesville Tornado
Last, but not least, Gainesville Tornado being one of the most violent ones, had taken place on 6 April 1936. It caused a huge amount of destruction, more precisely damage worth $13 million. During this outbreak, 203 people passed away while 1600 got injured.
