Today, we will discuss the Top 5 Facts About Egypt. Have you ever visited this place? It ranks 29th when it comes to being the biggest country on earth, with a population of 100 million. Visiting the pyramids of Egypt has been on the bucket list of many. However, there are several other things to explore in Egypt, being one of the oldest civilisations in the world.

Talking more about it, Egypt is located in the northeast corner of Africa. Here, several economic activities do take place along the valley of the river Nile. Because of the presence of so many beautiful things, tourism has been a very significant sector in Egypt.

Even if you have visited this place, I’m sure there are a few things about Egypt, you are not aware of. Here is what we know!

1. Invention of the modern calender

The ancient Egyptians were the ones who invented this calendar having 365 days in a year.  The primary motive for such was to predict the flooding caused by the Nile drive every year.

2. Home to one of the world’s largest dam

Well, everyone is much aware of the fact that the river Nile is considered the world’s largest river. To contain the raging waters of this river, Aswan high dam has been built in Egypt, which is on the other hand believed to be of the largest dams on earth.

3. Not always a desert

When the place comes to our mind, most of us make an instant picture of dunes, more precisely a desert. But, Egypt was not always a desert. During the last ice age, it was a land with trees and small lakes. But when the Ice Age ended, the climatic change rose the temperature and eventually it resulted in a scorching desert.

4. Egypt’s Pyramids are not the biggest ones

That’s true. Despite getting counted as one of the Wonders of the World, the pyramids in Egypt aren’t the biggest ones. The Great Pyramid of Giza covers an area of 21 Km². Whereas, the Pyramid of the Feathered Serpent, located in Mexico covers 200 Km². But, if we consider it on the basis of height, The Great Pyramid is the taller one with 137 metres where the other one is 66 metres tall.

5. Seasons

Unlike others, Egypt has a couple of seasons- Summer and Winter. Can you even imagine Egyot experiencing the cool weather? Yes, that’s true. Moreover, during winter which lasts from November to April, it brings storms from the Mediterranean. On the other hand, summer in Egypt stays during the rest of the months, that is from May to October.

There are numerous places in Egypt that you must explore, at least once in a lifetime!
