The Met Office has issued an updated weather warning for thunderstorms affecting large parts of England and Wales this Saturday, September 21.
The warning, which began at 1 am today and remains in effect until midnight Sunday, covers a significant portion of southern and south-west England, the Midlands, Wales, as well as parts of South Yorkshire, Cheshire, and Merseyside.
This morning’s update from the Met Office indicates that while some areas may remain dry, thunderstorms and heavy showers are likely to cause disruptions in various locations throughout the day.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across southern England, gradually spreading northwestward through the morning. By later in the day, these showers will become more widespread.
In affected areas, rain totals could reach 20-40 mm within an hour, with some isolated locations possibly seeing 50-80 mm over a few hours.
Hail and frequent lightning are anticipated with the most intense storms, particularly in the Midlands, western England, and eastern Wales during the afternoon and evening.

- London & South East England: Bracknell Forest, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire, Reading, Slough, Southampton, West Berkshire, Windsor and Maidenhead, Wokingham
- North West England: Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Halton, Merseyside
- South West England: Bath and North East Somerset, Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole, Bristol, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Isles of Scilly, North Somerset, Plymouth, Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, Torbay, Wiltshire
