Good morning! Here’s your weather update:
Today, we’re under an amber weather warning for heavy rain in several parts of England. The Met Office has issued this warning because we’re expecting over a month’s worth of rain to fall in some areas.
This heavy downpour will likely lead to disruptions and potential flooding.
The amber alert kicked in at 5 am and will stay in effect until 9 pm. It covers Worcester, Birmingham, Nottingham, and Hull, with some regions possibly seeing 100 to 120mm of rain. If you’re in these areas, be prepared for challenging conditions.
Additionally, a broader yellow rain warning is active across Wales, much of southern England, the Midlands, and into northwest England and Yorkshire. This yellow alert started at midnight and will continue throughout the day.
The weather has already turned stormy with thunder, lightning, and hail marking the end of summer and the start of autumn as the equinox passed on Sunday.
Looking ahead, temperatures will drop below average for the time of year due to incoming northerly winds.
Scotland will feel this cooling trend first, with temperatures sliding into the low teens by Monday and Tuesday. By the end of the week, many areas across the UK will experience cooler conditions than usual.
As of 5 am, the Environment Agency has issued 13 flood warnings in England. These include Atherstone in Warwickshire, Leighton Buzzard and Luton in Bedfordshire, and parts of London like Wimbledon and South Ruislip.
Please stay safe and avoid flooded roads. Emergency services are working hard to manage the situation, so only contact them for urgent issues.
That’s all for now—stay tuned for updates and keep an eye on the weather if you’re in the affected areas!
