Firefighters in Southern California made notable progress in containing the Mountain fire, which has been raging since Wednesday morning in Ventura County.
The fire, which started as a small blaze, quickly grew to cover 20,630 acres and was only 14% contained by Friday evening.

Other residents, like Maryanne Belote, found solace in the safety of their pets and livestock, though they too faced heartbreaking losses.
While the fire continues to pose a threat, authorities are focused on protecting homes, particularly in the steep terrain near Santa Paula.
Despite the challenges, the fire’s rapid growth has prompted widespread emergency responses, including power shutdowns to prevent further ignitions, and the deployment of cadaver dogs to ensure no one is missing.
As the fire continues to burn, the combination of strong winds, low humidity, and drought conditions across the region increases the risk of more wildfires, underscoring the need for heightened awareness and preparation.
