The holiday season is often a time of joy, but for those who have lost a loved one, it can also be a time of sorrow.
With this in mind, The Hummingbird Centre, a cancer support charity, invites the community to its annual Light the Light event, offering a chance to remember loved ones and reflect on the past year.
On Friday, December 6th, from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM, the event will be held at the center in Launton, near Bicester.
Guests are invited to enjoy a festive atmosphere with drinks, mince pies, and live entertainment.
The duo Sparky and Sprite will perform a mix of songs, adding to the warmth and cheer of the evening.
The highlight of the evening will be the switching on of the indoor and outdoor Christmas tree lights at 5:00 PM.
As the lights glow, guests will have the opportunity to silently reflect on the past year and toast to the festive season.
This event is more than just a celebration—it’s an invitation for everyone to come together and remember those they’ve lost.
Before the event, volunteers at The Hummingbird Centre will carefully unwrap nearly 3,500 tiny hearts, each bearing the name of a loved one, to be hung on two Memory Trees.
Mechelle Harris, the founder of The Hummingbird Centre, shared that the Light the Light event is a long-standing tradition for the charity.
“It’s a low-key ceremony meant to bring the community together, to reflect, give thanks, and welcome the festive season,” she said.
This year, the center has partnered with staff and inmates from Bullingdon Prison, who have crafted wooden stars to help raise funds for the center.
These stars are available for purchase at The Hummingbird Centre, and individuals can add a name or message.
All proceeds from the stars will support families impacted by cancer across Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and Berkshire.
Whether you’re attending to reflect, remember, or join in the community spirit, The Hummingbird Centre’s Light the Light event promises to be a special evening for all.
