As the Met Office issues a yellow weather warning for fog across Cheshire, drivers are urged to take extra care on the roads.
The warning, which is in effect from 12:15 AM until 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 28, highlights the potential dangers of patchy fog and icy patches that could make travel difficult.
The affected areas include Warrington, Northwich, Winsford, and Knutsford. Patches of fog are expected to form, significantly reducing visibility in some locations to below 100 meters.
With temperatures set to fall below freezing, icy conditions on untreated surfaces could further exacerbate the risk of accidents.
This weather warning follows the chaos caused by Storm Bert, which impacted the UK over the weekend and even led to flood alerts in parts of Cheshire.
Now, the fog and freezing temperatures are expected to affect road, rail, and air travel.
A Met Office spokesperson advised the public to take extra precautions: “With fog affecting visibility and icy patches forming, it’s crucial to give yourself extra time for travel. Check road conditions, adjust plans if necessary, and make sure your fog lights are in working order.”
Travel disruptions are expected across multiple modes of transport, including bus and train services, flights, and ferries.
Passengers are advised to stay updated on any changes by checking with their transport providers for the latest information.
The fog is predicted to thin and clear by late morning, but travelers are encouraged to remain vigilant and stay informed about any changing weather conditions.
The Met Office also recommended that individuals keep an eye on the weather forecast for any updates on the warning status.
