The Met Office predicts temperatures will drop to -7 °C, with snow likely in parts of Scotland.

Britons Brace for Cold Snap and Snowfall as Temperatures Plunge Below Freezing

As the UK experiences a brief mild spell, temperatures are set to drop significantly next week, with the Met Office warning of snow and icy conditions.

After a relatively mild weekend, where temperatures reached 16°C in the southwest, parts of the country could see temperatures plummet to as low as -7°C, particularly in rural Scotland, on Monday night.

The Met Office has issued an outlook that suggests widespread frost and patchy fog are likely on Tuesday morning.

Additionally, rain will spread eastward later in the day, with snow expected to fall over higher ground in Scotland and northern England.

Becky Mitchell, a spokeswoman from the Met Office, noted that “temperatures will be a bit below average” and that parts of the UK could experience “showery outbreaks of rain” and colder conditions moving into the week.

Rain and wind are expected to affect parts of Wales and northwest England on Monday, with conditions worsening overnight. By Tuesday, rain will intensify, particularly in the west, and overnight temperatures will continue to drop.

After a mild weekend, the UK faces cold conditions with frost, rain, and snow next week.

The coldest night of the week is predicted for Monday, where parts of Scotland could experience temperatures as low as -7°C, with widespread frost also likely.

Despite these chilly conditions, the rest of the week will bring a mix of wet and dry spells. Northern and western regions of the UK will see the most unsettled weather, with continued rain and gusty winds expected.

The cold snap follows a series of severe weather disruptions, with the UK still recovering from the impacts of Storm Conall and Storm Bert.

Both storms brought significant flooding, power outages, and widespread travel disruption, leaving many communities in the process of cleaning up in the aftermath.

The coming week is expected to remain unsettled, with the potential for further disruption as temperatures continue to drop. British residents are advised to brace for icy conditions and stay updated on weather warnings as the cold snap sets in.
