Some of Scotland’s highest mountains have received their first dusting of autumn snow. The Cairngorms, Glen Coe, and Lochaber are among the upland areas that have experienced wintry showers.
Cold air from the Arctic has been brought across the UK by strong north-westerly winds. Snow on Scottish mountains in September is not unusual as the transition to the colder winter months begins.
A photo taken from Dingwall shows snow on Ben Wyvis, while higher slopes in Glen Coe and the Cairngorms also display a light covering of snow. With the colder conditions, nights are expected to feel chilly, and rural areas may experience ground frost.
It was further noted that by Friday and into the weekend, there will be a shift in wind direction to a south-westerly flow. This wind shift is expected to bring more typical mid-September temperatures, ranging from around 16 to 20°C.
