Good morning, everyone. This week, we’re gearing up for a significant shift in our weather. Arctic air is pushing down, marking the onset of autumn’s chill.
After a warm and sunny finish to last week, southern Britain experienced heavy rain over the weekend, with rain warnings in effect on Sunday.
As we start the week, many areas are waking up to cloudy skies and light rain, particularly in the east and northwest. However, parts of the country enjoyed a dry and bright Monday morning.
Looking ahead, temperatures will dip as the week progresses. On Tuesday, expect a band of low pressure to bring heavy rain, followed by gusty, scattered showers.
By Wednesday, temperatures will struggle to reach the mid-teens, with a cold northerly wind adding to the chill. There’s also a chance of frost, with night-time temperatures potentially falling to 7°C.
The Met Office advises keeping an eye on forecasts, as weather warnings will be updated. Last week, flash floods affected Wales, and parts of southeast England saw more than half of September’s rainfall in just one day.
Forecaster Craig Snell noted that cooler air from the Arctic is set to dominate, delivering our first significant autumn chill. Expect daytime temperatures in the mid-teens, with nights dipping into the low single figures.
By Wednesday and Thursday, the cold air will firmly establish itself across the UK, bringing a wave of showers.
However, there’s a silver lining: the weekend should bring some improvement with sunny spells and slightly milder conditions as high pressure and Atlantic air move in.
Stay tuned for updates and enjoy the week ahead!
