New York has become the first state to leverage rebates from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to help residents lower their energy costs and reduce environmental impact.
Announced on Thursday, the state is expanding its EmPower+ program, offering eligible New Yorkers up to $14,000 in savings for energy-saving upgrades.
The program includes free home energy assessments, electrical upgrades, insulation installation, and the installation of electric heat pumps and water heaters.
Priority is given to households earning below 80% of the area’s median income, ensuring that energy-saving opportunities are accessible to lower-income residents.
The EmPower+ program targets low-income households to reduce energy waste and cut costs.This initiative comes as part of a broader push to promote clean energy and fight climate change.
