Wolsingham School in County Durham has postponed its “blue nose” climate action day after concerns from parents about a student-led plan to turn off the school’s heating.
Originally scheduled for Friday, the event aimed to raise awareness about sustainability and reduce the school’s carbon footprint.
In preparation, students were advised to wear extra layers, such as black V-neck jumpers and thick socks. However, hoodies were not allowed, and blazers were mandatory.
The event was expected to take place with the heating off, as students wanted to promote energy conservation.
Following conversations with parents, the school decided to delay the initiative until next summer when temperatures are expected to be warmer.
A second letter issued by the school confirmed that classes would proceed as normal on Friday, with the heating turned on and no need for additional clothing.
The school praised the efforts of the student climate action team, who have already contributed to sustainability efforts, including installing water coolers to reduce plastic use.
Despite some criticism on social media, the school continues its commitment to environmental awareness.
