Flooded rivers clog water intakes, impacting supply in Trinidad’s Toco, Valencia, and Arima regions.

Heavy Rainfall Disrupts Water Supply in Trinidad and Tobago Due to High Turbidity

Heavy rainfall has led to high turbidity in river systems across Trinidad and Tobago, causing disruptions in water supply.

Facilities are facing challenges with clogged intake screens due to debris from floodwaters, making water treatment difficult and limiting the distribution of clean water in affected areas.

Tobago’s Roxborough and Goodwood communities face water shortages as rainfall clogs treatment facilities.

In Trinidad, the impact spans several regions:

  • Tompire: Toco and Balandra are experiencing disruptions.
  • Matura: The water supply in Matura is affected.
  • Quare: Parts of Valencia are facing restricted water services.
  • Guanapo: Parts of Arima, Pinto Road, Mt Pleasant, and Calvary Hill are impacted.
  • McDavid Intake: Residents in Surrey Village and parts of Lopinot are affected.
  • La Pastora: Areas in La Pastora and Lopinot are seeing disruptions.
  • Acono & L&N: Several areas in Maracas, St Joseph, are experiencing issues.

In Tobago, the Richmond facility impacts the water supply in Roxborough and Goodwood.

Efforts are ongoing to address these challenges, but the process may be slow due to continued rainfall.
