The UK is bracing for a sharp drop in temperatures, signaling the end of an unusually warm October. The Met Office has forecast freezing conditions and heavy rain, with frost expected in northern England and snow in the Scottish uplands.
Temperatures in Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland could plummet to -3°C (26.6°F). The south of England and Wales are predicted to experience heavy rain, with up to two inches expected on Thursday and Friday.
The Met Office has issued warnings for potential thunderstorms, flooding, and travel disruptions.
Grahame Madge from the Met Office noted, “Wednesday night may bring frosts and significantly colder weather, which will be a stark contrast to the warm conditions we’ve had recently.
Cooler temperatures will spread, with heavy rain forecast for southern England and Wales. A significant rain warning is in effect from 9 pm on Thursday to midnight on Friday, with 20 to 30mm of rain possible in a few hours, and up to 50-70mm in high areas of Wales.”
Madge added that temperatures will drop to about six degrees below average, creating a noticeable change from the recent warmth.
