UKHSA warns of severe cold weather and ice hazards starting this weekend.

Cold Weather Alert Issued as Temperatures Plummet Across the UK

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued a cold weather alert as temperatures are expected to drop significantly in the coming days.

The alert takes effect at 9 am on Saturday and will remain in place until noon on January 12.

According to the Met Office, a high-pressure system moving over the UK will bring this cold spell, with icy conditions expected. Drivers are advised to be especially cautious due to potential ice on the roads.

Brisk winds and low temperatures are expected to bring widespread frost and icy roads.

The UKHSA notes that a brisk easterly wind will make the weather feel even colder, exacerbating the wind chill factor.

Temperatures are forecasted to be several degrees below average, particularly during the night, leading to more widespread frost than usual.

The combination of recent wet ground and low temperatures is likely to create hazardous icy conditions. This cold snap may persist into the following week.
