Snow has blanketed parts of south-west England and Wales, with around 50mm settling in North Wyke near Dartmoor National Park and nearly 75mm in Sennybridge, Powys. Temperatures dipped to -1.2°C in Okehampton, west Devon.
Rose Mallard, 50, a smallholder near Bideford, north Devon, described the scene as a “gift,” appreciating the combination of snow and clear blue skies.
Forecasters have noted a mix of rain, sleet, and hill snow moving north across the UK, coinciding with the Easter holiday travel period.
Oli Claydon from the Met Office mentioned a possibility of snow in the Scottish hills as the weather front advances. The situation is expected to shift towards an area of low pressure bringing strong winds and rain.
Yellow weather warnings are in effect for rain in Northern Ireland and strong winds in southern England. County Antrim and County Down might experience heavy downpours, with up to 30mm of rain expected on Thursday. From Cornwall to East Sussex, the south coast of England could face wind gusts of up to 70mph.
The Met Office has cautioned about potential hazards from strong winds and large waves, with risks including injury, life-threatening conditions, and the chance of hail and thunder.
Despite the unsettled weather forecast for the Easter weekend, conditions are expected to be “bright and breezy,” with temperatures reaching up to 15°C in west London and 14°C in Manchester on Sunday, typical for this time of year.
