New South Wales is bracing for a wet weekend with heavy rain forecasted and little chance of sunny weather next week.
According to Angus Hines, a senior meteorologist at the Bureau of Meteorology, the current spotty showers along the coast are expected to intensify into consistent, heavy rainfall. Some areas on the east coast have already received 50mm of rain in the past 24 hours.
Thunderstorms are anticipated to form in western NSW on Friday, with severe storms potentially reaching southern Queensland. This wet weather will move eastward toward the NSW coast by Saturday afternoon.
Sunday is predicted to be especially rainy for NSW, with long periods of rainfall expected. The Illawarra district, Sydney metro area, and Hunter coast might experience up to 100mm of rain over the weekend, which could cause disruptions such as water on roads, traffic issues, and minor flooding.
Hines noted that although the weather will start to clear from south to north on Monday, it will not turn sunny and dry. Instead, showers and cloudy skies are likely to persist throughout the week.
In Western Australia, a cold front is bringing severe thunderstorms to the southern regions, mainly south of Perth. While heavy rain was limited to 100mm in Brookdale, the rainfall is generally seen as beneficial after a dry start to the year in WA.
