IMD Predicts Widespread Rainfall and Thunderstorms Across India for the Coming Week

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across various regions of the country. The monsoon trough is active and positioned near its normal location, with a shear zone affecting north peninsular India.

Regional Forecast:

West and South Peninsular India:

The IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning in Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, and Karnataka.

Scattered light to moderate rainfall is expected over Gujarat, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Rayalaseema over the next five days.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Coastal Karnataka from July 11 to 15. Isolated heavy rainfall is also expected in the Gujarat region and North Interior Karnataka, with very heavy rainfall likely in Goa on July 11 and Konkan from July 12 to 15.

East and Northeast India:

Widespread moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is forecasted for Andaman and Nicobar Islands, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, and Northeast India.

Northeast India to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms; and temperature variations across the country.

Scattered light to moderate rainfall is expected in Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha over the next five days. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is likely in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Bihar on July 11.

Northeast India will see heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next two days, with reduced intensity afterward. Additionally, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted for sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya from July 11 to 15.

Northwest and Central India:

Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is predicted for Uttarakhand and Central India.

Scattered rainfall is expected over Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, and East Rajasthan. Isolated very heavy rainfall is possible in East Uttar Pradesh and East Madhya Pradesh on July 11.

Temperature:

Minimum temperatures are above normal in parts of West Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, East Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, and East Rajasthan, while they are below normal in Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, West Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, and North Interior Karnataka.

Maximum temperatures are above normal in parts of Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, West Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala & Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Madhya Maharashtra, Rayalaseema, Punjab, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, Gujarat, West Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Konkan, Goa, Vidarbha, Telangana, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. They are below normal in parts of Assam & Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Lakshadweep.
