Sunny weather graces Sydney and Adelaide, but rain looms for a soggy Tuesday.

Australia’s Long Weekend Brings Sunshine, But Rainy Return to Work Expected on Tuesday

Australia’s long weekend started with mostly pleasant weather across its capitals, but a soggy return to work is expected on Tuesday. While Melbourne began with fog and Brisbane and Darwin saw rain, Sydney, Canberra, and Adelaide enjoyed sunshine over the weekend.

Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth are experiencing warm temperatures, with highs between 27°C and 30°C expected until Tuesday.

In contrast, Melbourne and Hobart are having a cooler long weekend, with Melbourne reaching around 24°C and Hobart about 21°C. Adelaide will see a high of 31°C on Saturday, but temperatures are predicted to drop to 22°C by Tuesday.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, a weather system moving in from the south-west will bring rain to southern Australia starting Monday.

Melbourne and Hobart face cooler temperatures, with showers moving in as the week starts.

Senior meteorologist Angus Hines noted that this system, currently off southern Australia, will likely lead to wet conditions in most capitals as it progresses east.

“It’s a bit of a damp end to the long weekend,” Hines commented, although he added that conditions should generally remain good across the capitals, with Perth staying dry.

Looking ahead, Melbourne and Hobart are expected to see rain on Tuesday as the weather system advances. Sydney and Canberra may experience showers by Wednesday, with lingering rain in other areas. Northern Australia remains in its wet season, with thunderstorms and rain expected in far north Queensland and Darwin.
