Lightning strikes, hail, and intense showers are expected across south-west England and Northern Ireland Tuesday evening.

Thunderstorm Warnings Issued Across South-West England and Northern Ireland with Intense Downpours Expected

Thunderstorm warnings have been issued for south-west England and parts of Northern Ireland on Tuesday, potentially extending into the evening.

The Met Office predicts intense downpours, with up to 2 inches (5 cm) of rain expected in areas including Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Plymouth, Somerset, Torbay, and western Northern Ireland.

The yellow thunderstorm warnings, effective until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, also highlight the possibility of frequent lightning strikes and hail.

A separate yellow weather warning is in place from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, covering large parts of Wales and south-west England.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms could cause sudden flooding, disrupting transport and damaging buildings.

These warnings suggest the risk of sudden flooding, slow-moving heavy showers, and significant disruptions to transport and roads.

Residents in the affected regions are advised to prepare for potential power cuts, transport cancellations, and building damage due to spray and flooding.

Met Office forecaster Amy Bokota noted that the downpours could be slow-moving due to light winds, making them particularly intense in some areas.

Bokota emphasized that while some regions might experience severe weather, others nearby may remain unaffected, highlighting the unpredictable nature of these thunderstorms.
