Wimbledon is set to begin next week, marking the return of a beloved British tradition. Unfortunately, it will also bring along another familiar feature: rain.
While the tournament is expected to kick off on Monday with a mostly sunny and pleasant day, forecasters predict that the rest of the opening week may see some showery spells.
According to Met Office meteorologist Ellie Glaisyer, Monday will be “mostly dry,” with temperatures reaching a comfortable 20 to 22 degrees Celsius.
However, the weather may take a turn on Tuesday afternoon, with a few showers expected. Despite the rain, there will still be some sunny intervals, with temperatures possibly reaching 22 or 23 degrees.
The opening week promises a mix of sunshine, showers, and comfortable temperatures in the 20s.As the week progresses, the weather is expected to remain somewhat unsettled. Wednesday and Thursday may see a mix of dry clouds and occasional rain, with temperatures staying in the low 20s.
Glaisyer advises Wimbledon spectators to be prepared for all types of weather, suggesting they bring raincoats, umbrellas, sunscreen, and perhaps a hat.
The changeable weather is due to a jet stream heading toward the UK, causing low pressure over the country. While Saturday may bring showery conditions to northern Scotland, northern England, and Wales, southern and eastern parts of England are likely to see the best sunshine.
Temperatures on Saturday could reach highs of 23 to 24 degrees, with a possible 25 degrees in the southeast.
Sunday’s forecast is similar, with scattered showers and cloudy skies for most of the UK. However, there will be some breaks in the cloud, with the best sunshine expected in the southwest and southeast, where temperatures could reach 22 or 23 degrees. In the north, temperatures will be cooler, in the mid to high teens.
