Extreme heatwave grips the US, with over 146 million Americans under severe heat alerts.

Record-Breaking Heatwave Sweeps Across the US, Fueling Wildfires and Extreme Conditions

We’re facing a severe heatwave across the US, breaking records and prompting extreme weather alerts nationwide.

In the west, temperatures have soared to unprecedented levels. Over the weekend, Salem, Oregon reached a sweltering 103°F, surpassing the 1960 record.

The heatwave has been linked to at least four deaths in Oregon. Currently, over 146 million Americans are under extreme heat alerts.

The west is under excessive heat warnings, including California, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Meanwhile, the east coast is also feeling the heat, with advisories in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi.

Death Valley’s 128°F temperatures contribute to new wildfire outbreaks and fatalities.

Recent records include Las Vegas hitting 120°F and Death Valley reaching 128°F. This heat has been deadly, with a motorcyclist dying in Death Valley due to the extreme temperatures.

Firefighters are contending with numerous wildfires exacerbated by the heat. 73 large fires are burning across the country, covering nearly half a million acres. In California, 18 major fires are active, including the Lake Fire in Santa Barbara County and the Shelly Fire in Marble Mountain Wilderness.

Utah is also experiencing severe fire conditions, with the Silver King Fire burning over 10,823 acres and remaining fully uncontained. The US Forest Service warns of continuing extreme fire weather due to high temperatures, low humidity, and gusty winds.

Examining the heatwave will persist, with temperatures potentially reaching 130°F in Death Valley. The National Weather Service advises people to stay cool and hydrated as record-breaking temperatures continue throughout the week.
