Oregon and Washington experience dangerous heat waves; record-breaking temperatures pose serious health risks.

Pacific Northwest Faces Extreme Heatwave: Record Temperatures and Heat-Related Deaths Surge

The region is experiencing a major heatwave with temperatures reaching scorching highs. Today, we’re seeing continued extreme heat across Oregon, with some areas hitting 110°F (43°C).

This relentless heat has been linked to at least six heat-related deaths in the state, including several cases under investigation in Multnomah County involving older residents.

An excessive heat warning remains in effect for much of Washington and Oregon. Portland and Salem have already broken previous heat records, with Salem reaching 103°F on Sunday, surpassing a record set in 1960.

Wildfires intensify as heatwave persists; significant blazes disrupt communities across western states.

The National Weather Service predicts the most severe part of this heatwave will last through Tuesday evening, with more record-breaking temperatures possible.

In neighboring states, Nevada and California are also grappling with intense heat. Las Vegas hit 103°F by 9:30 a.m. and is expected to approach 120°F by day’s end. Reno set a new record high of 106°F yesterday.

As we move through the week, the heatwave is expected to shift north into Oregon and Washington, with potential record highs continuing. The heat is also fueling wildfires across western states, including a significant blaze in Santa Barbara County and fires in California’s Marble Mountain Wilderness and near Lake Tahoe.

The heatwave comes amid a record-setting global temperature trend, marking the 13th consecutive month of record warmth. Stay hydrated and take precautions to stay cool as this intense weather continues.
