On Sunday afternoon, Delhi saw light rain across various parts of the city, providing a brief respite from the persistent humidity that has dominated recent weeks.
This rainfall aligns with earlier forecasts by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which had predicted light rain for both Saturday and Sunday.
IMD scientist Soma Sen had indicated that rain in Delhi would taper off starting August 17, with a chance of light showers resuming in the days following.
The city has been experiencing consistent daily rainfall since August 1, creating a notable shift in weather patterns.
On Friday, the maximum temperature in Delhi reached 35.2 degrees Celsius, slightly above the seasonal average, while humidity levels remained high at 70%.
This ongoing pattern of high humidity and intermittent rain has been a significant factor in the weather discomfort experienced by residents.
The recent heavy rains have also had a tragic impact on the city. Last week, a seven-year-old boy tragically drowned in a pond formed by accumulated rainwater in a DDA park in Rohini.
Preliminary investigations have confirmed the drowning, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Additionally, heavy rains on July 27 led to the flooding of a basement library in Old Rajinder Nagar’s Rau’s IAS Circle, resulting in the deaths of three UPSC aspirants.
While the light rain on Sunday has offered some temporary relief, the weather remains variable, with the possibility of further showers shortly. Residents are advised to stay informed of weather updates and take necessary precautions.
