The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a week of intense weather conditions across several regions. This week, very heavy rainfall is anticipated in Gujarat, Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Southeast Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttarakhand, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
In Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning have impacted the area early today, August 28. The downpour has led to significant waterlogging in multiple locations. The IMD has issued a “yellow alert” for Delhi, which has seen 291.6 mm of rainfall this August, making it the wettest month in the last decade for the city.
Regional Forecast:
West and Central India: Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely in East Madhya Pradesh (August 28–31), West Madhya Pradesh (August 31), and Vidarbha (August 30–September 2).
Gujarat Region will see rainfall from August 29–September 2, with very heavy rainfall likely on August 28 and isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Saurashtra and Kutch on August 28 and 29.
East and Northeast India: Light to moderate rainfall will be widespread. Heavy rainfall is forecasted in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Arunachal Pradesh. Odisha may experience very heavy rainfall from August 29–31, with extremely heavy rainfall on August 30.
South Peninsular India: Scattered to widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected. Heavy rainfall is predicted for Kerala, Mahe, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam, while Coastal Karnataka may face very heavy rainfall through September 2.
Northwest India: Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh will experience moderate rainfall, with heavy rainfall likely in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Muzaffarabad. Southeast Rajasthan is expected to see very heavy rainfall today.
