The Met Office has issued two yellow weather warnings for Northumberland as Storm Bert approaches, bringing wintry showers, icy patches, and strong winds.
Residents are advised to prepare for potentially hazardous conditions and travel disruptions over the coming days.
The first warning, covering wintry showers and icy patches, remains in effect until 10 am on Friday, November 22. Commuters and pedestrians are urged to exercise caution on untreated roads and pavements.
The second warning, for strong winds, is scheduled from 5 am to 7 pm on Saturday, November 23. The Met Office predicts gusts of 50-60 mph across much of the region, with some coastal areas and high ground experiencing gusts exceeding 70 mph.
Storm Bert is expected to bring stormy seas, particularly along exposed coasts, and create hazardous conditions for marine activities.
National Highways has also issued a severe weather alert for snow in the North East region, with heavy snowfall anticipated on Saturday morning.
While the snow will gradually shift to higher altitudes, significant accumulations at lower levels could disrupt travel and cause delays.
The adverse weather has already led to event cancellations, including the Christmas Markets in Alnwick Ford and Etal. Organizers cited public safety concerns due to the high winds and snow forecast.
Residents are advised to stay updated with weather alerts, avoid unnecessary travel during severe conditions, and take precautions to secure outdoor belongings against high winds.
The Met Office and local authorities are monitoring the situation and providing ongoing updates to ensure public safety.
Stay prepared and prioritize safety during this challenging weather event.
