Storms intensify in Melbourne this afternoon, bringing severe weather and potential damage.

Severe Storms Sweep Across South Australia, Victoria, and Southern New South Wales

Severe storms have begun impacting parts of South Australia, Victoria, and southern New South Wales, with the potential for damaging winds and hail.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the most intense period for storms in Melbourne and other areas of Victoria is expected to be mid-afternoon, with heightened risks continuing into the evening.

Residents in affected areas should prepare for damaging winds and hail this afternoon.

Senior meteorologist Miriam Bradbury has highlighted that storm activity in Melbourne will ramp up from around midday, reaching its peak in the mid-to-late afternoon.

The current weather pattern is driven by a trough and cold front moving eastward from South Australia, which is forecasted to trigger widespread severe thunderstorms across Adelaide, Melbourne, and to a lesser extent, Canberra.

Storms have already affected Adelaide, northern and western Victoria, Melbourne, and parts of western and inland New South Wales. Residents in these regions are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard against the severe weather conditions expected throughout the day.
