UK Weather: Heavy Rain in the South, Heatwave in the North

Good morning! Here’s your weather update for the UK this week:

We’re looking at a mixed bag of weather across the country. In southern England, expect heavy rain and potentially severe conditions, with thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail possible.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain from 9 pm Wednesday to 9 am Thursday.

This alert covers all of southeast England, extending as far west as Taunton in Somerset and parts of southeast Wales.

Areas like Peterborough, Norwich, and parts of Birmingham could see over 50mm of rain in just a couple of hours, leading to potential flooding and disruptions.

In contrast, western Scotland will enjoy many warmer and settled conditions. Temperatures here could reach up to 26°C (78.8°F) on Friday and Saturday, edging close to heatwave thresholds.

The Met Office defines a heatwave in Scotland as three consecutive days with temperatures at or above 25°C. So, if the warm spell continues, western Scotland might just meet this criterion by the week’s end.

While Scotland basks in warmth, expect cooler nights as September progresses. Rural areas in Scotland might see lows of 7°C on Friday night. Meanwhile, southeastern England will experience a high of 27°C on Friday, though it may be accompanied by clouds and rain.
