The study also points out that current regulations, such as the EU’s microplastic ban, will not fully address leave-on products until 2029. In the meantime, there remains a pressing need for research into the long-term effects of exposure to microplastics and associated chemicals in these products.
Efforts are now underway to close this gap, with funding secured to develop methods for analyzing microplastics in leave-on cosmetics. This research will provide crucial insights into environmental contamination and potential health risks.
