A Delta Air Lines passenger, Svetlana Dali, caused significant disruption on a flight from New York to Paris after boarding the plane as a stowaway.
The 57-year-old woman managed to bypass security checks and boarded flight 265, which was already full, without a valid ticket.
Despite passing through property security at John F. Kennedy Airport, Dali’s boarding pass and passport were never verified, as confirmed by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Passengers on the flight reported that Dali evaded suspicion for a while by moving between bathrooms, avoiding the need to take a seat.
However, flight attendants eventually noticed her and became aware of the situation. The pilot announced the stowaway, informing passengers would remain on the plane until the matter was resolved.
Upon arriving in Paris, French authorities detained Dali for not having a visa for the country. She was identified as a Russian national legally residing in the United States.
Dali was put on a return flight to the US from Paris’s Charles de Gaulle airport, but her behavior took a chaotic turn when she became “unruly.”
French officials removed her from the plane, and she remains in France while investigations continue.
FBI and Delta are investigating the incident, with Delta stating they are conducting an exhaustive review of the situation. The TSA is also independently reviewing the circumstances at JFK, emphasizing that safety and security remain their top priorities.
