Thunderstorms could bring more than an inch of rain in just one hour to parts of England and Wales, according to forecasters.
Slow-moving showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop on Sunday afternoon, with 20-30mm of rain predicted. Hail and lightning are also possible, and people are warned to prepare for potential flooding, travel delays, and power outages.
The Met Office issued a yellow warning from midday until 8 pm for much of central and northern England and north-east Wales.
Later, another warning was extended to areas of south-west England and the Home Counties, effective from 10 am to 7 pm.
Forecaster Kathryn Chalk advised people to stay alert, especially those traveling or trying to enjoy the bank holiday weekend, as disruption is possible. Southern areas of England might also experience heavy downpours and occasional thunder.
Saturday saw dry and warm weather for many. The outlook for bank holiday Monday includes a mix of “sunshine and showers,” with drier conditions possible in parts of Wales, Northern Ireland, and south-west England by the afternoon.
