Forecasters predict that the UK will continue to experience cool and wet weather despite signs of high-pressure building from the west.
After a chilly and windy weekend, temperatures will stay low on Monday and Tuesday, though sheltered spots may feel a bit warmer in the sunshine.
Heavier showers on Monday are expected to lessen by Tuesday, with overnight temperatures dropping into single digits, possibly leading to frost in rural areas.
Met Office meteorologist Ellie Glaisyer described the temperatures as “disappointing for June,” with forecasts indicating temperatures will be slightly below the seasonal average.
Heavy showers may ease, but many areas will see sunny, warm days with light winds.Typically, June temperatures range from 13°C-16°C (55°F-61°F) in the north and 17°C-19°C in the south, but the coming days will be cooler.
The week will be marked by a mix of sunny spells and showers, with a band of cloud and rain expected on Thursday. The long-term forecast suggests that the weekend will bring a combination of sunshine and showers, some of which may be heavy and slow-moving, with a possibility of thunder.
The Met Office noted that not all areas will experience showers, and many regions could enjoy warm, sunny days with light winds.
However, confidence in the forecast for the following week is low. While there are signs of high-pressure building from the west, showers or longer periods of rain are still possible, especially in eastern England and Scotland.
As of Monday midday, there were 11 flood alerts in place across central England following heavy showers earlier in the day.
