Australia will experience a chilly week ahead, with temperatures expected to be up to 4°C below average in various regions.
The Bureau of Meteorology predicts that ski resorts in the eastern states may see some much-needed snowfall, coinciding with school holidays.
Senior meteorologist Dean Narramore mentioned that a rain band moving through South Australia, Victoria, and Tasmania on Saturday will reach the alpine areas of northeast Victoria and southern New South Wales.
This should bring snow to these regions, with forecasts indicating 10-20 cm of snow in Victoria and NSW.
Cold temperatures and rainfall continue, with showers expected along the NSW coast this week.Following this, the country will experience a spell of cold weather, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected to be 2-4°C below average.
Melbourne is set to see maximum temperatures around 12°C over the week, while Hobart will reach 9°C on Sunday and 11°C on subsequent days. Sydney’s temperatures are forecasted to be between 14-16°C, and Adelaide will see highs of 13-14°C.
Narramore noted that a large high-pressure system will cause these colder conditions, affecting even northern parts of Australia like the Northern Territory and Western Australia.
Rainfall from the recent rain band has been significant, with up to 90mm recorded in parts of northern and western Tasmania and over 50mm in South Australia’s Mount Lofty Ranges.
This rain is expected to continue moving into New South Wales on Sunday and southern Queensland on Monday and Tuesday. Coastal NSW will see showers throughout the week, although they won’t be as heavy as recent weekends.
